About this lesson
In this lesson students will continue to look at the hardships migrants faced with a particular focus on the migrant groups post World War II which include migrants of Baltic and Italian descent. You will continue to examine and analyse sources and research migrant experiences with a particular focus on Post WWII migrants and migration in the Bonegilla Centre. Students will develop skills pertaining to historical concepts and inquire as well as further develop research skills with particular focus on sustainability and personal and social capabilities of empathic understanding and perspective in understanding the history of migration experiences. An extension task is also given in this lesson where you will be asked to write a critical reflection which using your own knowledge and the synthesis and corroboration the evidence within the sources linking with the previous lessons of government policies and practices as well as the governments attempt to attract more migrants.
Using the sources above discuss the hardships Italian migrants faced in settling into Australia? Reflect upon the notion that some cultures were favoured over others and the effect assimilation and integration had on migrants.
Research
Using the following sources listed research about the migrants which immigrated to Australia between 1945 to 1955 with a particular focus on Post War experiences of coming to Australia. Examine first hand accounts and digital artefacts and choose particular migrants to look at. Discuss what the source you have chosen reveals about the migrant and the hardships or experiences they faced. You can go beyond the sites listed to further inquire about the migrant experience. Remember to look at only migrant experiences Post WWII.
